A 23-year-old guitar player serenates commuters and bystanders with his musical talent.

SASOLBURG. – A social media sensation has emerged from the streets of Sasolburg, captivating audiences with his stellar performances.

Mahlatse Chokoe (23) has gained widespread recognition for his talent in playing popular songs sung by music giants such as Ringo Madlingozi and others.

Armed with his faithful buddy, a guitar, and a voice that seems to touch many souls, Mahlatse’s story is one of determination and passion fused together for survival.

Since 2020, he has been sharing his musical gifts with passersby at taxi ranks and civic centers across his kasi and Vaal respectively, turning dull spots into vibrant stages.

Mahlatse, affectionately known as the “street guitarist,” has become a household name, thanks to his viral performances that have captured the hearts of many both online and in person.

Reflecting on his journey, Mahlatse shared his story of how music became his haven.

“I see my music being popular in the music space and the whole world. I look up to artists such as Oliver Mtukutsi, Bra Hugh Masilela, and Ringo. I started playing the guitar in 2020; however, being a singer has always been a part of me,” he said.

Determined to share his love for music with the world, he took to the streets, transforming them into his stage.

“I want people to connect with the kind of music that I do, hence I travel all over the country, singing for different audiences. It’s funny how every province I have been to relates despite different languages,” he added.

His performances quickly gained attention, drawing crowds and sparking a wave of admiration on social media platforms.

“People often ask me why I choose to perform on the streets; for me, it’s about connecting with people on a deeper level. Music has the power to unite us, to touch our hearts and souls. And what better way to do that than amid everyday life?”

As his popularity continues to grow, Mahlatse remains humble and grateful for the support he has received. “I never imagined that my music would touch so many lives. I’m grateful for every moment, every smile, and every connection I’ve made through music,” he said.
