SEBOKENG – The police in Sebokeng have launched a murder and attempted murder case docket. This follows the fatal shooting of a man at the Polokong sports grounds near the Crystal Springs Combined School. The incident happened on October 20.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokachane reports that two others were shot and subsequently rushed to hospital.
“It is alleged that the deceased, Steven Sonwabile Nobela, was watching a soccer game with friends when a fight ensued. Nobela intervened in a fight between the suspect and another person. He is alleged to have pulled the person away and further told him to refrain from fighting with the suspect.”
Mokhachane says shortly after the fight, two men came from nowhere and one of them pointed at Nobela, shouting to the suspect “that is him.”
“The suspect pulled out a firearm and fired several shots at Nobela. He then searched his sling bag and took a firearm, cellphone, and an undisclosed amount of cash.”
Mokhachane states that while spectators tried to intervene, the suspect shot randomly at them and two people sustained gunshot wounds. All three men subsequently then fled the scene.
