SASOLBURG – The Metsimaholo Local Municipality has cautioned members of the public against individuals illegally selling sites or land in Wonderfontein.
According to the municipality, they have learned of rumours circulating that sites in the new housing development outside the civic centre are being sold or allocated.
The municipality has since distanced itself from the rumours, claiming the information is not true.
In a statement issued on the municipality’s website, the communication department has categorically stated that no sites in mixed housing development are being sold.
“We urge residents to disregard such misleading claims and to remain vigilant against scams or unauthorised activities. The municipality will always communicate any official site sales, allocations, or developments through the proper channels including the official municipal website, recognised and credible newspapers, and public notices on municipal platforms,” read the statement.
The statement further alluded that Metsimaholo prioritises transparency and accountability in all its dealings.
“Residents are encouraged to verify any claims or announcements directly with the municipality to avoid falling victim to misinformation or fraudulent schemes. Let us work together to prevent the spread of false information and ensure the integrity of our community’s development processes,” read the statement.
In recent months, the Wonderfontein housing project made headlines when unemployed youth from Sasolburg shut down the multi-billion housing project.
At the time, the furious group boycotted the project due to non-consultative processes with their community.
Showing solidarity with the aggrieved residents, AfriForum supported the community’s concerns and demanded that the municipality stop the development as it allegedly does not meet several critical requirements for development.
