Man arrested for attempted murder of a 2-year-old

A man is behind bars for attempted murder of a toddler in Orangeville.

ORANGEVILLE: A 39-year-old male has been arrested in Oranjeville for an alleged attempted murder after a 2-year-old boy was stabbed.

According to Fezile Dabi District police spokesperson, Sergeant Josephine Rani “On February 19, at about 08:00, police received a complaint regarding a 2-year-old child who was held hostage by a suspect at a residence in Metsimahalo, Oranjeville. The suspect allegedly stabbed the child multiple times and threatened to slit his throat.”

Police were called to the scene following the dramatic act.

“The members swiftly responded to the scene and shot the suspect in the left calf, thereby rescuing the child. The child was rushed to the clinic for medical attention,” said Rani.

The suspect has been arrested on charges of attempted murder and will appear at Sasolburg Magistrate Court.
