Dog eats discarded foetus

SEBOKENG.- The Sebokeng police are investigating a case of concealment of birth after a dog was spotted eating a discarded foetus in Zone 10 Ext 3, on Wednesday morning.
Eyewitnesses said they saw the dog, which had itself recently given birth, dragging what looked like a doll from a nearby open field into the yard, and upon closer inspection it was discovered that the ‘doll’ was a foetus.

“The dog had already eaten the (foetus’) hands and feet when it was removed, and was now going for its head,” an eyewitness said.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane said community members summoned them to the scene.
“The (nursing) dog recovered the foetus in an open field and brought it into the yard where it started eating it. The foetus was declared dead by Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and confirmed to be a boy. The body was taken to Forensic Pathology Services for further investigation,” Mokhachane said.
The police plead with the community members to assist them with any information about a person who was pregnant in the surrounding areas but is no longer pregnant.
Any person who might have information about the person who dumped the foetus can contact Sebokeng SAPS on 082 498 9563, 08600 10111, 10111, or 112. Alternatively, information can also be communicated via the MySAPS App.
