Dedicated detective cracks police station theft headache

Detective Moss Mogajane cotinue to make strides in an effort to curb crime happening at Boipatong police station.

BOIPATONG – For months police in Boipatong were battling with criminals terrorising their station mostly at night.

This comes after unknown men constantly stole from the police station yard, scoring outdoor lights, air conditioners, and metal zinc among many other things.

But one dedicated detective, who has dozens of convictions under his belt, made it his task to find the culprits.

Warrant Officer Moss Mogajane recently brought in a trio of thugs on charges of theft and robbery.

His success did not only lead to the culprits being behind bars, but also linking them to other house robbery cold cases reported in their precinct where three cellphones were stolen.

Speaking to Ster, Sedibeng District police spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela said: “Detective Warrant Officer Mogajane’s thorough investigation led to the recovery of two stolen cellphones at one of the suspect’s residences. Notably, one of the suspects was previously on parole and had been performing community service at Boipatong Police Station, where he masterminded the thefts,” she said.

Maxambela added that it wasn’t the first time parolees terrorised their station while doing their community service duties. “In 2019, another suspect from France, Boipatong, was assigned to community service at the station and stole two computers and a plasma TV from the trauma centre.”

Mogajane pursued the case diligently, travelling to KwaZuluNatal, where he successfully recovered the stolen plasma TV and later the stolen computers.

The suspect was arrested, found guilty, and sentenced to 11 years of direct imprisonment.

The Acting Station Commander extends his congratulations to Mogajane for his exceptional work in solving these cases and ensuring justice is served. “His relentless efforts continue to uphold the integrity of the SAPS and enhance community safety,” said the station commander. Boipatong Police Station urges residents to remain vigilant and report any criminal activities to their nearest police station or contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
