Electricity minister visits Lethabo Power Station

During his visit, Ramokgopa addressed scores of employees, urging them not to be deterred but to continue working together with the management in order to overcome the challenges that the power station faces.

LETHABO. – The Minister of Energy and Electricity, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has restored the morale of employees at Lethabo Power Station, stating that they can restore the station to its former glory.

Ramokgopa has been conducting oversight visits at various power stations in the country following an energy crisis. This is after the electricity plant suffered a rare setback of three-unit failures, leading to the re-implementation of loadshedding.

The incident prompted the management at the power station to hold ongoing talks in order to quickly respond to power failures and finding solutions amid the crisis.

During his visit, Ramokgopa addressed scores of employees, urging them not to be deterred but to continue working together with the management in order to overcome the challenges that the power station faces.

Ramokgopa said that he was happy about the fact that the team and the management were pro-active in engaging in order to find solutions to the problems long before his arrival at Lethabo.

He said that there was nothing the workers could not achieve. Addressing members of the media present during the visit, Ramokgopa said he was happy about the positive response of the employees who expressed that they were disappointed at the challenges, but planned to work harder to turn matters around.

“As a minister, it is important to show support and give attention to these matters.”

In response, organised labour said that they would forge ahead and collaboratively work with their management in order to ensure that the situation changes.

Eskom’s Group executive for generation, Bheki Nxumalo says, “The messages has landed. The history of this plant speaks volumes and the team here knows what has to happen in order to elevate this plant to greater heights. We have heard the country and we will respond. We are also not happy with the current performance. We are progressive and aware of what has to be done.” He said that they are ready to rise to the occasion.
