Waterpoints steals the show at Sasol Marathon

Sasol Marathon normally give spotlight on thousands of runners, however waterpoints normally steals the show.

SASOLBURG – If you thought the Sasol Marathon was just about running think again.

The legendary marathon marked its 30th edition, bringing the party to the streets of Sasolburg on March 29, when its famous high-energy water points stole the show once again.

With vuvuzelas blaring, music pumping, water spraying, and sugarloaded treats flying off tables, thousands of runners pushed their limits on the flat, fast route that qualifies them for the Comrades Marathon.

About 13 vibrant water stations manned by Sasol employees and local businesses treated participants to more than just water; some stations provided salt for cramps, sweets for an energy boost, and CocaCola to keep them going strong.

As if this is not enough, 3 500 runners arrived at different points to non-stop cheering squads, turning every hydration stop into a mini-festival.

Senior Vice President at Sasol’s Sasolburg and Natref Operations, Ntokozo Gcabashe, said: “The innovation of water points was outstanding. We witnessed a high spirit from participants, and it was amazing. This year was a bit special, and the standard has gone up. We hope next year more preparations will be done.”

To reward the most creative and energetic waterpoint crews, three companies walked away with trophies for their efforts in hyping up the race and motivating the runners along the trail.
