Vanderbijlpark SAPS conduct Easter operation

Vanderbijlpark police says their Easter operation was a success as dozens were locked up for different crimes.

VANDERBIJLPARK – Dozens of police precincts, including Vanderbijlpark, embarked on successful Easter operations.

On Saturday, April 19, men and women in blue, together with other law enforcement agencies, took to the streets to keep residents safe.

According to police spokesperson, Sergeant Sabelo Sigcu said their operation formed part of Operation Shanela.

“We started our operation from 16:30 until 02:00. The operation concentrated mainly on the road block and stop and search, as it was time for the Easter holidays. However, even the taverns and other liquor outlets were visited during the operation,” he said.

Sigcu added that their visits to liquor outlets were to check illegal liquor outlets, dangerous weapons, and drugs.

“During the tour of the operation, eleven traffic fines were issued, four suspects were arrested for possession of drugs, and another four were also arrested for being in the country illegally,” he said.

“Officers also arrested one person for employing an illegal foreign national and twenty-six for driving under the influence of alcohol,” he added.

Sigcu said the Operation was led by the Station Commander of Vanderbijlpark, Brigadier Phiwe Ndwandwe, and the Acting Sedibeng District Commissioner, Brigadier Mbangwa Nkwashu, who welcomed the successes and also applauded the members for their dedication.
