VANDERBIJLPARK – Another fruitful story for a dedicated police officer from the Vaal.
After just two months, Detective Sergeant Mokhele Phake has added another successful prosecution to his belt.
On April 15, Vanderbijlpark communications stated the success of the detective who boasts 22 years’ experience for sending a man behind bars again for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
This time, Phake was investigating a brutal family feud that turned into a criminal case when a 22-year-old man smashed his grandfather with a brick on the head following a dispute.
The shocking incident landed Kamohelo Bolofo a solid 10-year prison sentence handed down by the Regional Court of Gauteng on April 9.
Neighbours and family were left horrified after Bolofo demanded house keys from his grandfather, and when refused, went into a violent rage.
Bolofo struck his old man on the head with a brick near the gate of their home, leaving him with severe head injuries.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Sabelo Sigcu said: “The old man screamed for help, bleeding and injured, until family members rushed him to the hospital. The accused was reported to be aggressive and violent by family members on the same day.”
But swift action by the police ensured justice was not delayed.
“Members responded quickly, arrested the suspect on the same day, and the docket was handed over to Detective Sergeant Phake, who worked tirelessly to wrap up the investigation,” Sigcu added.
Beaming with pride, Sergeant Phake said: “These convictions are the results of hard work and team effort.”
Meanwhile, Station Commander Brigadier Phiwe Ndwandwe welcomed the conviction, praising the teamwork and urging officers to continue learning from one another to boost performance and results.
