VEREENIGING – A dark cloud has once again covered the Vaal Triangle following the death of Fundiswa Motsiri (6), who was struck by a scholar transport vehicle on May 27.
Motsiri was a Grade One pupil at Selborne Primary School in Vereeniging. The incident happened on Kruger Street just outside her school. It is reported that Motsiri was attempting to cross the road when the fatal accident occurred.
Following the gruesome incident, the school shared the news of the six-year-old’s death.
“It is with profound sadness that I share the heartbreaking news of Motsiri’s death, who passed away on Tuesday. Please keep the family in your prayers. We will share further information as it becomes available.”
Laerskool Drie Riviere has also conveyed their deepest sympathies. “We at Laerskool Drie Riviere are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Fundiswa Motsiri.
“Our hearts go out to her family, friends, and the entire school community during this difficult time. May her memory be a blessing, and may we all find strength in the love and support of those around us. Please accept our sincerest condolences.”
In February, another six-year-old, Mpilentle Nonjoli, from Laerskool Sonlandpark was also hit by a vehicle outside school premises. The two incidents have sent shock waves through the community.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela said the pupil was declared deceased by ER24. Maxambela confirmed that a culpable homicide case docket is open, adding that investigations are ongoing
