The De Deur SAPS, in partnership with Siyabangena Patrollers and the Community Policing Forum (CPF), recently conducted a door-to-door awareness campaign in the Sobukwe informal settlement.
The initiative, led by SAPS, aims to strengthen community relations, raise awareness about crime, and promote active public participation in crime prevention efforts. By engaging directly with residents, police officers work to build trust and gather valuable information essential for effective policing.
According to police spokesperson Constable Mampho Mahlomola, the focus of this campaign was on substance abuse and its link to criminal activity.
“The community was also informed about the various stakeholders working together with SAPS to combat these issues,” Mahlomola explained.
Residents were urged to report individuals involved in the sale or distribution of drugs and other illegal substances in the area.
Mahlomola further emphasised the importance of maintaining a strong relationship between the community and law enforcement, noting that such partnerships are vital in the fight against crime. The campaign also included guidance on how residents can use the MySAPS app to report criminal activity and stay informed about safety initiatives in their area.
