FS EFF rolls sleeves to keep kasi clean

EFF MMCs in the Free State, councillors, and volunteers joined the programme on October 17 for World Clean-Up Day.

SASOLBURG – Dozens of EFF members rolled up their sleeves outside the ordinary council business and formed part of World Cleanup Day.

Braving the scorching sun on October 17, the red berets took to the streets of Zamdela, Ward 10, near Theha Setjhaba Primary School, where they cleaned several mushrooming illegal dumping sites.

Explaining the day, Fezile Dabi District Municipality EFF leader, April Motaung, said the World Cleanup Day is an annual global event held on September 20 to combat solid waste and promote environmental responsibility.

Organised by the global organisation Let’s Do It! World. the day involves volunteers cleaning up waste in respective communities to raise awareness and encourage sustainable habits.

Motaung further added that the event’s goals include fostering a sense of shared responsibility for the environment and addressing the global solid waste problem.

“We joined the campaign in contribution to the course; equally, our involvement as the EFF is driven by Andries Tatane Cleaning. Hence the need to commemorate the day by cleaning our communities,” he said.

“Our EFF MMCs in the Free State, councillors, and volunteers joined the programme on October 17 for World Clean-Up Day and helped make our community sparkle again as a way of making sure we connect and care for our environment.”

The day was supported by several departments, including Forestry, Fisheries & the Environment, DESTEA, Department of Health, Fezile Dabi District Municipality, Metsimaholo Local Municipality, SAFRIPOL, OMNIA, and The Synthetic Latex Company.

“We will continue to take this initiative to other areas in our respective municipalities and make sure that we clean and care for our environment,” he said.
