Man (51) arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm

DENEYSVILLE – A joint operation conducted by the Fezile Dabi Trio Task Team, Sasolburg Crime Intelligence, and Deneysville Detectives has resulted in the arrest of a 51-year-old suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

In a statement issued by Fezile Dabi District police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine Rani, on November 13, members received information regarding two males allegedly in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“Our officers responded swiftly and, upon arrival at the identified address, found approximately 200 community members pursuing the two suspects. Police managed to apprehend one of the individuals and recovered a firearm, eight live rounds of ammunition, and drugs,” she said.

Rani added that the second suspect was fatally injured as a result of mob justice.

The arrested suspect is expected to appear before the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court on charges relating to possession of an unlicensed firearm.
