SEBOKENG- A gruesome discovery on the Golden Highway left the Sebokeng community reeling in shock after a man was found lifeless with severe head and body injuries.
Local police suspect the discovery might be the result of a hit-and-run accident that occurred in the wee hours of November 23.
A culpable homicide investigation is underway.
Sebokeng Police spokesperson Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane told Ster that their members were summoned to Golden Highway next to Zone 20.
“On arrival, they [our officers] found an African male lying unresponsively on the ground. Upon inspection, they noticed blood stains, shattered car parts, and skid marks on the road surface,” she said.
“The vehicle and the driver were not on the scene, and therefore the incident is considered a hit-and-run accident,” Mokhachane said.
Mokhachane confirmed that the deceased sustained head injuries, back injuries, and his other foot was detached from his body due to excessive force.
“He was declared dead on the scene by emergency medical services and further taken to Sebokeng Forensic Pathology Services for further investigation,” she added.
Mokhachane further explained, “A hit-and-run accident is when a driver involved in a crash leaves the scene without stopping to assist, provide contact information, or report the accident to authorities. This is a criminal offense in many places, including South Africa, where the driver could face a fine or imprisonment.”
The police are urging anyone with information that may assist with the investigation to contact Sebokeng SAPS anonymously on 016 466 2047, 082 498 9563, 10111, 08600 10111, 112, or via the MySAPS app.
Pedestrians and drivers are advised to always exercise caution on the road.
