SAPS Sedibeng leads high-visibility operation in Orange Farm
Integrated policing initiative strengthens community partnerships and boosts safety efforts ahead of the festive period.
The police in the Sedibeng District, under the leadership of Major General Nkhensani Mukhwevho, conducted a successful Operation Basadi in Orange Farm on November 18.
The operation forms part of SAPS’ broader Safer Festive Season strategy, which focuses on strengthening police visibility, raising awareness about gender-based violence (GBV), enforcing compliance, and enhancing community safety through integrated law enforcement and social mobilisation efforts.
According to police spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela, a multidisciplinary team of more than 90 members was deployed, supported by 17 vehicles and a helicopter.
“This included members from the Sedibeng District, various SAPS stations, Lesedi Traffic, JMPD, the Department of Community Safety, Siyabangena, Conventional Patrollers, GBV Brigades, and PCO members,” she said.
Maxambela explained that the Sedibeng District Social Crime Prevention (SCP), Corporate Communication, and Victim-Friendly Centre teams, together with the broader operational members, were divided into three functional groups, each focusing on key safety priorities.
The first team conducted a GBV awareness campaign at the Boxer Centre in Orange Farm, distributing 120 pamphlets and engaging community members on understanding GBV, how to seek help, and where to report crimes.
The second team focused on liquor compliance, resulting in the shutdown of non-compliant establishments and the seizure of illegal liquor.
The third team carried out a crime-prevention operation, distributing safety pamphlets and conducting stop and search activities to enhance security and disrupt criminal behaviour.
Maxambela reiterates that the operation was executed with high visibility and strong collaboration.
“The integration of enforcement and Social Crime Prevention significantly amplified the impact of the operation, particularly in raising GBV awareness and strengthening partnerships with the community. Overall, the initiative fostered the creation of a safer environment for Orange Farm during the Festive Season.”
