SEBOKENG – Sebokeng’s streets were brought to a standstill as Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni rolled out a hard-hitting, multidisciplinary high-density during the weekend.
Popularly known as the Safer Festive Season Operation Shanela 2, men and women in blue sent a strong message to criminals operating in the area, targeting taverns and conducting stops and searches.
The operation held in Sebokeng policing precinct under the watchful eye of Sedibeng District Commissioner, Major General Nkhensani Mukhwevho, resulted in multiple arrests, marking yet another success for the crime-fighting operation.
During the operation, one suspect was arrested for possession of a hijacked motor vehicle, while 22 motorists were taken into custody for drunk driving.
Police also apprehended one illegal immigrant, arrested two suspects for possession of drugs, and nabbed one suspect found with an unlicensed firearm and 50 rounds of ammunition.
In a clampdown on illegal alcohol trade, seven liquor outlets were shut down for failing to comply with regulatory requirements.
Meanwhile, provincial detectives intensified their manhunt for suspects, arresting a staggering 599 wanted individuals overnight, with 173 linked to crimes against women and children.
