MEYERTON – Two suspects were arrested, and a vehicle linked to several house burglaries and theft cases in Meyerton and Katlehong was recovered in a crime-combating operation on Monday.
The operation took place in Riversdale, Sector 3, following intelligence-driven tracking of a red Renault Triber wanted in connection with house burglaries and theft cases.
According to police spokesperson Constable Nompumelelo Zazini, the vehicle, which had recorded three alerts on the SNIPR tracking system, enabled law enforcement agencies to trace it to the Riversdale area.
“A joint take-down operation was then conducted. The suspects were arrested without incident.”
Members from Kathlehong’s Serious and Violent Crimes Unit attended the scene and confirmed that they had been actively searching for the same vehicle.
The operation involved multiple law enforcement and private security agencies from the region.
Zazini explains that during the arrest, officers recovered alternative vehicle number plates and a flat screwdriver suspected of being used in the commission of house burglary crimes.
“The vehicle and the suspects’ cellphones were seized as evidence. Both suspects were detained at Meyerton SAPS and will appear in court soon.”
Police described the arrests as a successful example of cooperation between law enforcement and private security in the Sedibeng region.
