Meyerton police investigate two hijackings
Police in Meyerton are investigating two separate hijacking incidents, including the kidnapping of a woman in Meyerton Park and a truck hijacking on the R59 Freeway.
The police in Meyerton have launched an investigation following a hijacking and kidnapping incident that took place in Meyerton Park on May 7.
The woman was dropping her uncle off at a residence and parked in the driveway. As she exited her car, an unknown man pointed a firearm at her and told her to get in the passenger seat.
As she got into the vehicle, she noticed five armed men using another vehicle. The suspects subsequently drove off with the victim.
Police spokesperson Constable Nompumelelo Zazini reports that the victim was later found with her car at the Chris Hani Mall in Vosloorus. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Zazini confirmed that the woman was found unharmed.
“The suspects took her car keys and two cellphones before fleeing the scene.”
Zazini confirms that a case was opened at the Vosloorus SAPS and later transferred to Meyerton SAPS.
In another incident, police are investigating a truck hijacking that occurred on the R59 freeway near the Henley Drive off-ramp on May 8.
The complainant says that while on the R59, a white Dyna truck hooted at him, indicating something was wrong with his truck.
“The complainant kept on driving. A few minutes later, the driver of a silver Hyundai i20 with no registration hooted at him, indicating that there was something wrong with the truck. The truck driver stopped the truck. While he was checking, he was approached by an unknown African male with a firearm on his waist. He threatened to shoot.”
Zazini reports that the driver was taken into a white sedan that drove away, leaving the truck behind.
“The complainant was later dropped off at Primrose by the suspect. He was later assisted by a motorist who dropped him off at Brackendowns Police Station, where he opened a case.”
Upon being called to the scene, police found that only the trailer was seized. The head of the truck was taken to the company depot by the tracking company.
The case was later transferred to the Meyerton SAPS. Zazini says investigations are ongoing, adding that no suspects have been arrested.
