Police promote safer schools in Vereeniging

The South African Police Service in Vereeniging recently hosted a school safety awareness talk at Handhawer Laerskool to address bullying and fighting among learners.

The Vereeniging SAPS recently hosted a school safety awareness talk at Handhawer Laerskool. The initiative was geared towards addressing bullying and fighting amongst learners.

The initiative brought together stakeholders, including the Department of Education and school patrollers, to educate learners about discipline, respect, and a safe learning environment.

Police Spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela said learners were encouraged to report incidents of bullying, avoid violence, and work together to promote peace and unity within the school premises.

Stakeholders also highlighted the negative impact of bullying and fighting on learners’ education and emotional well-being.

Vereeniging SCP and Sector Commanders further urged learners to respect one another, focus on their studies, and make responsible decisions that contribute positively to their future.

This programme is part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen safer schools and build positive relationships between law enforcement, educators, learners, and the community.
