VANDERBIJLPARK – The Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) has issued a communique to announce a 50-hour water shutdown for Sharpeville, Bedworthpark, and Vanderbijlpark next weekend, from Friday, May 29, until Sunday, May 31.
According to the municipal spokesperson, Makhosonke Sangweni, the shutdown will be implemented to ensure future reliability and efficiency of the Rand Water systems.
“Water supply to consumers at Powerville Park, Sharpeville, parts of Tshepiso, Bedworthpark, Boipatong, Vanderbijlpark, Bophelong, Bophelong Extensions, Bonanne and surrounding plots will be shut down,” he said in a statement.
Sangweni added that during the shutdown, consumers supplied from the Sharpeville and Bedworthpark meters may experience low pressure or water cut-off.
“The municipality will dispatch water tankers to augment the supply in affected areas. A detailed tanker schedule will be published at the appropriate time,” he said.
“Some of the areas supplied from the Vanderbijlpark Reservoir will not be severely impacted by the shutdown; however, to avoid a total outage, consumers who still have water during the 50-hour maintenance are advised to use it sparingly until the situation normalises,” read the statement.
Sangweni said regular updates will be communicated during the maintenance period.
