Rotary Club of Vanderbijlpark helps Dante Chan Christian Centre
The Dante Chan Christian Centre in Vanderbijlpark has received a vital boost after the Rotary Club of Vanderbijlpark funded and installed a high-capacity water tank and pressure pump.
VANDERBIJLPARK – The Dante Chan Christian Centre urgently required a water tank. The Rotary Club of Vanderbijlpark got a district matching grant and their Club’s Foundation Chair, Allan Claase, ensured that the tank was purchased and installed.
The Dante Chan Christian Centre was started by Captain Alwyn Wilken and his wife, Trudie, after Alwys was involved in investigating the murder of 14-year-old Dante Chan, which exposed him to the plight of the homeless.
The Rotary Club of Vanderbijlpark posted on their Facebook page: “The centre provides essential services including meals, shelter, and job placement support.
“Today, it serves over 200 people daily with soup and a meal on Sundays after church, with involvement from local businesses and the community.”
Following the installation of the water tank, the Rotarians received a letter of gratitude from the centre, which said:
“On behalf of the Danté Chan Christian Centre, I would like to extend our most sincere gratitude to the Rotary Club of Vanderbijlpark for the generous donation of a high-capacity water tank and pressure pump.
“This essential contribution addresses a critical need, ensuring a consistent and permanent water supply for our facility. We would like to specifically acknowledge the efforts of Foundation Chair Alan Claase and Service Project Chairperson Jackie van Waveren for their coordination and commitment to this initiative.
“Your dedication to community service significantly strengthens our ability to serve those in our care. Furthermore, we wish to express our appreciation to Mr. Peet Denner and the team at Eclipse for their professional expertise in handling the installation.
“The quality of the workmanship ensures that this system will remain a reliable asset for the Centre for years to come. Thank you for your partnership and for investing in the sustainability of our mission.”
