Motsamai decries infrastructure collapse in Lesedi
DA mayoral candidate Mokete Motsamai says road infrastructure in Heidelberg and Rensburg has reached a state of collapse, with many streets rendered nearly impassable by mud, stagnant water, and erosion.
A recent oversight by the DA mayoral candidate for Lesedi Local Municipality, Mokete Motsamai, revealed dire road infrastructure challenges faced by the community. Motsamai conducted a series of visits to Heidelberg and Rensburg, where he witnessed the devastating state of local road infrastructure.
Motsamai noted that many residential streets, including Buitenkant Street, have transitioned from being “potholed” to a state of total collapse.
Motsamai says, “Large sections of the road network are now virtually impassable due to deep mud, stagnant water, and severe erosion, a direct result of years of neglect by the Lesedi Local Municipality.

“Everywhere you go in Heidelberg and Rensburg, the story is the same. The infrastructure hasn’t just deteriorated; it has collapsed. Residents are forced to navigate mud-filled trenches just to reach their homes. What makes this a tragedy is that the community has done its part by raising these issues repeatedly through IDP meetings and directly with the council, yet their pleas have fallen on deaf ears. The current administration has simply checked out.”

The visit highlighted the lack of service delivery that threatens the safety and property values of residents.
Motsamai said he will continue to monitor the situation and will be escalating the findings to the relevant committees to demand immediate remedial action for the worst-affected streets.
