Police engage hundreds of learners at Phoenix High School
Stakeholders addressed issues such as bullying, substance abuse and respecting others’ rights, with police saying the initiative helps promote learner safety and build trust with youth.
VEREENIGING – The Vereeniging SAPS Social Crime Prevention unit recently held a school safety awareness talk at Phoenix High School.
Stakeholders such as the Vereeniging FCS, Department of Community Safety, Life Line, NICRO, Siyabangena Patrollers, and the Youth Crime Prevention Desk formed part of the event. It reached over 200 learners.

During the event, various speakers talked about issues including bullying, substance abuse, as well as refraining from infringing on the rights of other people.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela believes that these engagements proactively combat crime, ensure learner safety, and foster trust between law enforcement and local youth.
Maxambela says that police in the region continue to monitor and engage with learners. The awareness was successful and had a positive impact on the learners.
