FREE STATE – A municipality battling overflowing rubbish and illegal dumping has received a major boost after Sasol donated 30 brand-new giant skip bins to help restore cleanliness across four struggling Free State towns.
The energy giant handed over the 12 m³ skip bins along with three heavy-duty cargo nets to Mafube Local Municipality on July 7.
According to Sasol, this is an effort to tackle mounting waste management problems in Frankfort, Villiers, Cornelia, and Tweeling.
Residents have long complained about illegal dumping, overflowing refuse and poor waste collection, with rubbish becoming an eyesore and a health hazard in many neighbourhoods.
Sasol Senior Vice President for Sasolburg and Natref Operations, Ntokozo Gcabashe, said the donation forms part of the company’s commitment to improving the lives of communities.
“We want people to live in communities that are clean, safe and dignified. These bins are more than equipment – they are part of a practical solution to improve everyday life,” she said.
Gcabashe stressed that Sasol does not intend to replace municipalities but to work alongside them in finding sustainable solutions to service delivery challenges.
The skip bins will serve as dedicated collection points to curb illegal dumping, while the cargo nets will ensure the bins can be transported safely once full.
