Woman killed as taxi flips off road

Police cordoned off the scene at a plot on Barrage Road after a taxi overturned.

BARRAGE – A horrific accident on the R42 Barrage Road has claimed the life of a woman following a morning fatal accident.

The nightmare unfolded when a taxi veered off the road, smashed through a palisade fence and rolled.

According to information at Ster’s disposal, the horror crash happened at about 07:30 on River Street near the R42.

The woman, believed to be in her 50s, died at the scene despite emergency responders rushing to help.

At least seven injured passengers were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment after the mangled minibus came to rest inside a plot.

Shocked residents and passing motorists watched as police, emergency services and accident investigators swarmed the scene.

Wreckage from the taxi and road signs was scattered across the area while officers spent hours documenting evidence.

Police believe the taxi driver lost control of the vehicle.

Barrage Police spokesperson Sergeant Sophia Gaboutlwelwe confirmed the fatal crash.

“A case of culpable homicide has been opened, and investigations are continuing,” she said.
