Five schools in the Heidelberg policing precinct benefited from the Lesedi Cycle Tour, which aimed to impart knowledge and skills to learners, helping them to make more positive and responsible choices for a better future.

The event was officially launched at the Heidelberg Prison on July 27. The tour ran for five days. Officials engaged learners on road safety, healthy living, and community participation. The theme “Don’t be a fool, crime is not cool” encouraged youth to make positive choices about their lives.

The Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Sedibeng Community Safety, Lesedi Local Municipality, the Departments of Health, Education, Community Safety and COGTA, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Correctional Services, the IEC, Ratanda CPF, GBVF Brigades, SANCA and various non-governmental organisations formed part of the tour.

Constable Doris Nkosi says learners participated in awareness sessions on substance abuse, bullying, sexual offences and healthcare.

“The programme aims to empower young people with practical information on staying safe, making positive decisions and knowing where to access help when needed.”

Speakers encouraged learners to prioritise their safety, make responsible choices and become active partners in preventing crime.

Learners also received valuable information on drugs, bullying, gangsterism, gender-based violence, initiation schools and healthcare from SAPS and more than 30 stakeholders.

Schools visited are Mountain View High School, Ratanda Secondary School, Zikhethele Secondary School, Kudung Middle School, and Kgoro Ya Thuto Secondary School.
