Can collector find foetus at illegal dumpsite

A can collector got the shock of her life while searching through the rubble.

BOPHELONG – A can collector got the shock of her life when she discovered a foetus dumped at an illegal dumping site in Bophelong Ext 15.

The woman was collecting tins early on Monday morning (August 31) when she started looking for an empty plastic bag to put her cans in.

But when she pulled out what looked like a clean plastic bag, she felt something heavy inside.

“When I opened the plastic bag to see what was inside, I found another Checkers bag which was fastened and heavy. I opened it too, and to my surprise there was a baby inside,” she said.

The shocked woman said she ran from the scene and called residents for help.

Dozens of residents gathered at the dumping site to see what had been found before police were called.

Vanderbijlpark detectives attended the scene and launched an investigation.

Vanderbijlpark police spokesperson, Sergeant Sabelo Sigcu confirmed a case of concealment of birth has been opened.
