VILJOENSDRIF – Four suspects aged between 23 and 26 were arrested after a dramatic police chase that ended near Lethabo Power Station.
The suspects were allegedly involved in an armed robbery at a tyre business in Deneysville on Wednesday (October 7).
According to Fezile Dabi police spokesperson Constable Kelello Patsa, four suspects travelling in a black vehicle allegedly robbed the business at gunpoint at about 12:30.
“The owner of the tyre business was threatened by the suspects using firearms to force him into handing over cash and cellphones at the establishment. Amongst other things, valuable tools and business merchandise were also taken,” he said.
Patsa said Deneysville SAPS was alerted by the complainant. The suspects allegedly fled towards Viljoensdrif, prompting Deneysville police to alert their counterparts in the area to be on the lookout for the vehicle.
Viljoensdrif police later spotted the vehicle on the R716 road, with all four suspects inside.
However, the suspects allegedly refused to stop and crashed into parked police vehicles that were blocking their path before speeding off again.
A high-speed chase ensued, with police firing warning shots as they pursued the fleeing suspects.
The chase ended near Lethabo Power Station, where police intercepted the vehicle and arrested all four suspects.
Police also confiscated unlicensed firearms allegedly used in the robbery and recovered the stolen property.
