Women’s Day Boxing Tournament

The Future Champs Sports Club in conjunction with Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Sports and Recreation will host a Women’s Day Boxing Tournament scheduled to take place at Phase 2 Grounds in Tshepong, Sebokeng on Tuesday, August 9.

SEBOKENG.-  This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport by the Future Champs Sports Club founder, Jafar Franks who promised fireworks at the event.

The tournament is part of Women’s Day celebration with female boxers expected to trade leather come the day. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Franks was accompanied by Sindiswa Queen Mkweiyi who is an internship learner at the ELM Sports and Recreation Department.
Franks said that the theme of the tournament is ‘Real Men Don’t Box Women’.

“We box In The Ring,” Franks said adding that all the boxing clubs in Sedibeng are invited to be part of this unique initiative. He also invited the Tshepong community especially women, young and old to come in big numbers.

“The tournament is meant to recognise women in sports and create awareness against gender based violence (GBV). For the success of the tournament, we humbly request assistance with the trophies, medals, paramedics, T-shirts, refreshments, sound, gazibos, table/chairs to mention but few. Lets help build the Tshepong community with sports parks where our kids, young adults and elderly people can enjoy sporting games. We also humbly request the donation of trees to be planted in the area as an initiative to create our own park in the area. Your support will be greatly appreciated to make a difference in the Tshepong community,” he said.

Franks concluded by telling Sedibeng Ster Sport that the theme of the tournament is also meant to encourage boy children in the community, and that they must protect girl children to have a healthy society.”

The weighing starts from 9:00 with the main event starting at 10:00.
