Fire destroys popular fast food kitchen
The kitchen of the Glamor Magic YANYS cafe in Vereeniging city center has been destroyed and the popular cafe remains closed for the time being while clean-up work is carried out.
VEREENIGING. – The fire started on Sunday evening around 19:30 at the well-known cafe on the corner of Voortrekker Street and Rhodes Avenue.
The floors of the cafe were still covered in a black layer of soot during Vaalweekblad’s visit on Monday morning (13 February 2023).
According to David Mammouchi, a family member of the owner, the kitchen sustained the most damage.
Mammouchi says he received a call around 19:30 on Sunday evening in which he was told that there was smoke coming out of the building.
The Emfuleni fire brigade was called, but according to Mammouchi they took more than an hour to come out.
It is well known that the fire station is currently suffering from challenges, including a lack of diesel.
The owner Aghiles Amenna, an Algerian businessman, is on his way to South Africa from France.
