Rotary Club C4C empowers Grade R students
VANDERBIJLPARK. - During 2009, the Rotary Clubs of Riverside and Vanderbijlpark embarked on a joint project called Children for Children (C4C), with the objective of providing financial assistance to deserving Grade R children.
The brainchild of Past President Dr Angela van Pletzen, a dedicated advocate for the project and an esteemed educator at the time, C4C has since organised numerous events to sustain its mission. Among these, the Ladies’ Chocolate Tea, the Children’s Art Competition, and a Wine Auction stood out as the most popular, generating funds vital to the project’s continuity.
Every year, the principals of 12 primary schools in Vanderbijlpark carefully select deserving children who would benefit from the project.
The C4C committee, in turn, regularly met with the children to monitor their progress.
During these visits, the children received goody bags packed with educational toys, toiletries, jerseys, beanies, mittens, and blankets.
Prior to the unfortunate disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the project had already positively impacted the lives of 324 children.
Nevertheless, as a result of the pandemic, the project had to be discontinued. Subsequently, the committee faced the task of determining how to allocate the remaining funds that had been raised for the project.
A meeting was organised with the principals, who expressed a strong desire for the funds to be used to supply educational materials to their Grade R classes, thereby benefiting a greater number of children.
The handover of these donations recently took place at Parkridge Primary School, where principals from all 12 schools were present to receive the contributions.
The Rotary Clubs of Riverside and Vanderbijlpark would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the sponsors and supporters of the C4C Project for their unwavering commitment and involvement throughout the years.
