DA to assess the neglected Old Sharpeville Police Station

The Democratic Alliance (DA) Shadow MEC for Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation (SACR) is expected to visit Sharpeville.

SHARPEVILLE.- The Democratic Alliance (DA) Shadow MEC for Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation (SACR), Kingsol Chabalala MPL, is expected to conduct an oversight inspection at the Boipatong Monument and Youth Centre and the Old Sharpeville Police Station.

The oversight visit is set to take place on Thursday, September 28.

The aim of the visit is to assess why the Boipatong Monument and Youth Centre is not fully functional and why the Old Sharpeville Police Station has not been maintained.

“Boipatong Monument and Youth Centre has not been operational since its inception in 2015, despite the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation (SACR) spending over R12 million on operating costs,” Chabalala said.

The Old Sharpeville Police Station has been neglected with no maintenance for years.

According to Chabalala his team will ascertain what needs to be done to ensure that these historical heritage sites benefit the local community and contribute to the Gauteng economy.
