English lessons leads to franchise
In attendance were students who had received tutoring throughout the past three decades, educators, friends and family.
VEREENIGING. – What started out as English lessons for her Grade 1 daughter and a few friends in her living room back in 1993 soon became a successful education and tutoring business with franchises across South Africa. Active English South Africa, founded by Vereeniging resident and entrepreneur Antionette Slabbert (61), recently celebrated its milestone 30th anniversary at Three Rivers Lodge on 14th October 2023 with a masquerade ball.
In attendance were students who had received tutoring throughout the past three decades, educators, friends and family.
During the evening students expressed their thanks and appreciation for what Antionette and her Active English has done for them. Many students can speak English fluently and with confidence as result of the extra English classes and for some it has even opened doors abroad.
According to Antionette the original idea was to empower her daughter with skills in order for her to be fluent in Afrikaans and English. She soon started taking in friends and friends of friends and with time her business grew and grew.
Active English was established as a franchise in 1995 and now includes not just Active English, but Active Maths, Active Afrikaans as well as a Social Science Club that happens on Friday afternoons and offers curriculum-based classes for children between the ages of 3 and matric.
After the formalities and speeches on the evening, guest kicked off their shoes for a night of dancing!
