‘These deep holes pose a great danger to motorists – be vigilant!’
Does an accident have to happen before the authorities put warning tape around the potholes or repair them, asks a resident.
In recent months, Vaalweekblad has often warned motorists and pedestrians about the enormous holes in Westinghouse Boulevard, Vanderbijlpark, because there is no warning tape around them. The holes are quite inconspicuous and very close to the road – and very deep. An unsuspecting pedestrian who accidentally ends up in this is definitely going to get hurt! Read what one of Sedibeng Ster’s readers says:

Gerrie Castelyn of Vanderbijlpark writes:
There are two terrible holes in the ground on the left side of the road in Westinghouse boulevard, just before the circle leading to Jan van Riebeeck boulevard.
I don’t want to chase up ghosts, but just think if someone falls into them during the day or night when they are walking (these days so many walk and type on their phones and don’t look where they are walking), or a motorist ends up in them with their car or car wheel… or if a child rides a bicycle to school and doesn’t notice the holes in time… This can have serious consequences!
I can’t believe our municipality doesn’t secure the deep holes or at least mark them off with warning tape. They’ll probably wait for someone to have an accident and then say they didn’t know about the danger!
