Phuncu in the running to become Mrs SA
EVATON.-35-year-old Mandisa Phuncu from Evaton is a semi-finalist in the current Mrs South Africa pageant.
Phuncu got into modeling through a friend from university who had a keen interest.
“We entered Miss Emfuleni together. I only entered to support her but ended up winning the title in 2009. That is how I fell in love with pageantry.”
Phuncu studied psychology at the North West University (NWU) Vaal Campus but followed her dream of becoming a fashion designer and brand owner after she was bitten by the fashion bug.
Speaking to Ster North, Phuncu says she would like to take her brand to the world.
“Taking Amari Woman, my Africaninspired brand for women, global.
It would provide a platform to showcase my commitment to female empowerment and cultural celebration, inspiring people worldwide through the brand’s message of strength, authenticity, and pride.
“Winning the Mrs South Africa pageant would signify a profound validation of my journey, achievements, and values.
It would represent the culmination of relentless dedication, perseverance, and selfdiscovery.
Beyond the crown, it would symbolise a platform to amplify my voice and advocate for causes close to my heart, inspiring others to embrace their unique strengths and potential.
Furthermore, the Vaal beauty states that winning would affirm her commitment to empowerment, resilience, and making a meaningful impact in her community and beyond, serving as a beacon of hope and possibility for individuals striving to overcome obstacles and pursue their dreams.
Phuncu states that winning the competition will provide a significant platform to promote her brand, Amari Woman, both nationally and internationally, allowing her to reach a wider audience and potentially attract investors and partners interested in supporting my vision.

Phuncu believes that education provides women with knowledge, skills, and confidence, empowering them to make informed decisions about their lives, pursue their goals, and assert their rights.
She urges young girls to maximise their talent and realize their potential.
