MIDVAAL.- 25 local ECD’s attended the awareness to promote culture of safety among the younger generation.
The awareness took place on the March 20.
In a statement Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM) highlighted the importance of prioritizing children’s rights to safety in a democratic society that values diversity and equality.
“This is essential for equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge for their future.”
To address this need, the Sedibeng Disaster, Midvaal Traffic, Midvaal Fire Department, and Early Child Developmental Forums have collaborated to implement the ECD Risk Reduction Awareness program. This program aims to enhance resilience and minimize risks for children and their communities.
Using child-centred approaches, the program ensures active participation of children in assessing, planning, and implementing safety measures.
“Community ownership and integration of child rights principles are emphasized, along with sustainability through partnerships and capacity building.
The main goal is to reinstate safety, discipline, and knowledge among young people and educators.”
Specific objectives include reducing the likelihood of children encountering unsafe situations, increasing their confidence and resilience, and enhancing their awareness of personal rights related to safety. Practical activities engage learners in understanding hazards and risks, particularly related to fire and road safety, aiming to reduce injuries and casualties.”
