UK Easter Soccer Tournament draws huge crowds

The game started on a fast-flowing pace with both teams going at each other.

SEBOKENG.- Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Executive Mayor, Sipho Radebe kicked off the much anticipated UK Easter Soccer Tournament at the dusty UK soccer ground in Zone 7, Sebokeng on Monday.

Political leaders, nationwide, used Easter Holidays activities to campaign for their parties for the coming elections. Others visited the churches while others attended sports activities in their communities. Radebe kicked the ball to start the final game between Unstoppable FC against G Stars FC which ended 5-4 in favour of Unstoppable from Beverly Hills. The game went straight to penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw in full time.

As expected, the local soccer fans packed the venue to capacity from day one of the tournament until the last day of the tournament. For years this tournament has attracted a large number of supporters at this time of the year.

The soccer fans enjoyed top-drawer football, otherwise, known as ‘kasi football’ with the players who are blessed with God-given talent entertaining them with shibobo’s, tsamaya’s, spie-two’s, show me your numbers, and kneeling on the ball to mention but few.

The game started on a fast-flowing pace with both teams going at each other, however, G-Stars FC was the first to break the deadlock with a brilliant individual goal much delighted to their supporters.

However, Unstoppable FC refused to be outplayed as they also put together some exciting footwork to unlock the stubborn G-Stars FC defenders. The game went to interval with 1-all after G-Stars grabbed an equaliser. At this stage, it was game on with both sides attacking each other in search of the second goal.

Both teams began where they left off in the first half starting the second half like a house on fire.

The game had to be decided on penalties after a full-time score of 1-1-.
