Midvaal launches library bus service to promote literacy in remote areas

This service will go beyond the brickand-mortar location, bringing library services directly to communities that lack traditional libraries in their areas.

MEYERTON. – The Midvaal Local Municipality has launched a mobile Library Bus Service to promote literacy, and learning, and to improve accessibility for residents living in remote areas.
This service will go beyond the brickand-mortar location, bringing library services directly to communities that lack traditional libraries in their areas.
Residents living in more secluded and peripheral areas will have easier access to library services. The Library Bus Service will also extend to the elderly in retirement homes.
This mobile service initiative will improve access to books, educational resources, internet access, and other materials for people who struggle to reach libraries.
The mobile library will operate on schedule in the following Wards: 1, 2, 5, 7, 11, 12, and 13.
The municipality said in a statement issued last week that it leveraging technologies like the ones in the mobile library bus, such as e-books, educational apps, multimedia content, and internet access, to break down barriers to learning and information for communities across our municipality.
“Through this initiative, we aim to inculcate a culture of reading, promote digital literacy, and empower individuals to pursue educational and enrichment goals. Reading isn’t just a pastime; it’s a pathway to growth and development. With this service, we’re empowering individuals of all ages to expand their horizons and contribute to our collective progress,” The municipality says it remains committed to being a compassionate and peoplecentred institution, dedicated to empowering all our communities with resources for learning and development.
