SEDIBENG.- The 2023/2024 Safa Sedibeng Hollywood Regional League season concluded over the weekend, with VUT FC emerging as the Stream B champions after defeating RESA 2-0 in the final match at Isak Steyl Stadium on Saturday.
In another league encounter, Vaal Juventus FC secured second place in VUT FC are Safa Sedibeng Hollywood League champions Stream B by defeating NWU Vaal FC 3-1 at Qedilizwe ground. Juventus FC entered the game trailing VUT FC by one point. Had VUT FC lost or drawn, the outcome could have been different.
“The Students” lived up to expectations by defeating RESA, who were also in contention for the league title. Currently, VUT FC awaits the Stream A winners to determine Sedibeng’s representative at the Promotional Playoffs. The Stream A winner remains undecided due to the cancellation of the Young Pirates FC versus Remember FC match. In another development, Palm Spring United FC failed to fulfill their final game against Perfect Academy at George Thabe Stadium on Sunday, resulting in Perfect Academy receiving three points without playing.
VUT FC Head Coach, Obakeng “Bucks” Naane, in his debut season coaching in the Safa Sedibeng Hollywood Regional League, guided VUT FC to Stream B champions. Naane, a former instrumental player during VUT FC’s Nedbank Cup run to the Last 16 (where they were defeated by Mamelodi Sundowns), spoke to Sedibeng Ster Sport after their game against RESA. He acknowledged the tough challenge posed by RESA, as both teams vied for the league title.
