Vereeniging residents come out to vote
A couple of police had to be called into the venue to restore calm amongst the voters who did not like the system of being called in alphabetically.
VEREENIGING. – Although in ‘trickles’, the community of Vereeniging came out in numbers to vote at the Vereeniging Civic Hall today.
In the morning, perhaps because of the unreliable weather, the line to the hall was short but as the day progressed, young and old, black and white, came out to form a long line that eventually reached the gates of the premises to exercise their rights.

“We are here to vote, to exercise our democratic right,” most residents Sedibeng Ster spoke to said.
Security was tight with parties only allowed to put up their tent’s meters away from the entrance of the venue as required by the electoral code. Some parties were still doing last minute campaigns with speakers blaring political songs.

A couple of police had to be called into the venue to restore calm amongst the voters who did not like the system of being called in alphabetically while they had been queuing a long time, only for those that had arrived to be called in to vote.
No major scene occurred at the time of going to print.
