Weekend sporting activities called off due to lack of water

The teams agreed to play their outstanding games during the school holidays to speedup the league program.

SEDIBENG.- The weekend sporting events including the Emfuleni Local Football Association (ELFA)’s Junior League matches had to be cancelled due to the lack of water.

For the past five days there was no water in the Emfuleni areas which forced the much anticipated sporting activities in the areas to be called off. The affected areas include Bedworthpark, Sharpeville, Vanderbijlpark, Tshepiso, Boipatong, Bophelong, Bophelong Extensions, Bonane and surrounding Agricultural Holdings.

With the situation stand, ELFA had to call off all their league fixtures at these above affected area for the safety of the players.  The teams agreed to play their outstanding games during the school holidays to speedup the league program.

Some of the league matches were supposed to play at the following venues, Santa Maria, Cecil Oldridge Park, and George Thabe Stadium. The league took the decision to call off the games on Friday seeing that there water would not be back soon.

“We decided to postpone all the leagues’ matches after we received concern from the teams’ officials that there was no water at their area. The teams agreed to play those outstanding games during the school holidays so that we can finish our leagues on time,” said ELFA Head f Development, Master Zondo.
