Matlafala unites people to celebrate Mandela Day in style

In the spirit of Mandela’s selfless devotion in serving others, the team rolled up their sleeves to bring joy, hope and empowerment to those who need it most.

SEBOKENG – The Matlafala Community Forum embarked on a remarkable journey to honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela, dedicating 67 minutes of their time in making a tangible difference in the lives of disabled individuals and elderly people, at Zone 12, Sebokeng recently.

The forum hosted an event where people with disabilities and elderly people received gifts and some local artists performed and sang, showing off their talents, while letting people know that “having a disability means, having a different ability to learn.”

Hlompo Nketu performed a song to entertain those in attendance.

In the spirit of Mandela’s selfless devotion in serving others, the team rolled up their sleeves to bring joy, hope and empowerment to those who need it most. Through their compassionate efforts, Matlafala Community Forum demonstrated that even the smallest acts of kindness can have a profound impact, inspiring a ripple effect of positivity that extends far beyond the allotted 67 minutes.

Mhlupheki Solomon Qutywa, the founder and president of Matlafala Community Forum mentioned the purpose of the event, stating:

“We invited people living with disabilities and elderly people to celebrate this day with them, making them feel special and loved.”

Qutywa said that Matlafala Community Forum is an organisation for the community and that their aim is to uplift the youth of Sebokeng by helping them to find jobs. They also specialise in fighting unemployment in Vaal. The organisation has been operating for four years, also working with Mahlale A Lekoa Boitshe Community Forum based in Sharpeville. Chairperson of Mahlale A Lekoa Boitshe Community Forum, Mmuso Samuel Thekiso said:

“We came here to support Mr Qutywa in this remarkable event. This shows that he loves his community, by giving them hope. Some of the people that we’ve helped to get jobs are now giving back to the community. I would also like to thank the companies that sponsored this event.”
