Mafojane showcases her culinary skills on national television

She came out in the Top 10 and won a range of prizes that will go a long way in helping her develop her skills in the kitchen.

SEDIBENG.- Step by step, Lehakwe Mafojane is getting closer to her dream of being a celebrated chef.

This 16-year-old, grade 10 Riverside High School learner is currently on an SABC 2 culinary show called Taste Master Junior. Mafojane saw an advertisement about the show requesting potential contestants to enter, and she did not hesitate. She was chosen out of 400 entrants along with eleven other contestants from different provinces.

During the June school holidays she was flown to Cape Town, where the filming took place. She came out in the Top 10 and won a range of prizes that will go a long way in helping her develop her skills in the kitchen.  The young Mafojane could not hide her excitement at taking part in the show and wishes that many more opportunities would come her way. She currently has her videos posted on social media networks.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Mafojane’s mother, Manana Mafojane said that Lehakwe has always loved being in the kitchen experimenting with different dishes and cuisines, and that it came as no surprise to many who know their daughter that she would be chosen to participate in the show.

“As parents we are very proud of Lehakwe, she has shown that whatever you wish or dream for you can achieve. The exposure of being on television will also go a long way in making sure that she is recognised for what she loves, and so that she can get sponsors to continue with her passion,” Manana said.

The Taste Master Junior aired on July 30, showcasing the best young bakers from across South Africa every Tuesday on SABC 2 at 7:00.

Show repeats are on Wednesdays at 13h00 and Sundays at 16h00 on SABC 2.
