Celebrating unsung heroes this Women’s Month
"Teamwork enabled the soup kitchen to become successful."
SHARPEVILLE.- With August known as Women’s Month, Sedibeng Ster wants to recognise those unsung female heroes within our community.
Malvis Radebe (34) from Tshepiso Phase 3, in Sharpeville is one of those selfless women in the community whose commitment can’t be questioned. She works for Thusong Projects’ soup kitchen, cooking soup for more than 3000 people a day. Sedibeng Ster recently visited Thusong Projects to spend a day in the soup kitchen – watching this down to earth woman as she cooked soup for strangers.

This mother of one is one of the women Sedibeng Ster wants to acknowledge for her hard work in serving the community. Daisy Makume, who is Thusong Projects’ General Manager, has been working for the company for the past 10 years. She told Sedibeng Ster that when she started working, she didn’t understand anything about the soup kitchen, but she was willing to learn.
Makume said teamwork enabled the soup kitchen to become successful.
“Malvis is dedicated and passionate about serving the community. She is a loving person, and always willing to go the extra mile. Her personality is something to admire – a very sweet person to say the least,” said Makume.
Sedibeng Ster will continue to acknowledge ordinary women who do extraordinary work in the community as part of Women’s Month.
