Informal settlement community embarks on cleaning campaign

“I’m happy that the community has decided to continue with this initiative to clean this informal settlement for the sake of their children."

EVATON.- Despite their challenges, the informal settlement community opposite Graceland was hard at work cleaning their area recently. The community decided to focus on making sure that their environment was clean and conducive.

This community has been living there for more than five years without proper infrastructure. This is despite the government’s promises to them but with no progress. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, self-proclaimed community leader Amos “Hustler Pastor” Stoki said the community had a meeting where they decided to continue with their project to clean the area. This cleaning project started last year but stopped under the circumstances.

“I’m happy that the community has decided to continue with this initiative to clean this informal settlement for the sake of their children. I was part of the meeting and it was encouraging to see how the community was united to clean their area. This shows how proud they are of their area regardless of their challenges,” he said.

Stoki told Sedibeng Ster that this informal settlement resident is ready to engage the government to improve their living conditions.
