BOIPATONG.- Heavens rang in jubilations when the local celebrated photographer Vincent ‘Vino’ Matlou scooped two awards.

His exceptional work in sports photography earned him a nomination for the prestigious SA Sports Awards in 2024. The Boipatong lad won a South African Social Media Award and Gauteng Sports Photographer of the Year.

The awards took place in Johannesburg on Saturday and Sunday.

Matlou is the most popular figure in South Africa because of his unparalleled ability to capture the raw essence of sports through his camera lens. He is a celebrity sports photographer with a unique style and keen eye for detail which led him to collaborate with major football clubs and leagues, gaining immense respect in the sports photography industry.

When he started photography, little did he know that one day he would be a household name in South Africa, especially in football. He is admired by players and soccer players because of the unique photos and pictures he takes. Matlou is deeply committed to uplifting underprivileged athletes and through his platforms, he ensures that these athletes gain the visibility and opportunities they deserve.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sports, Matlou said he felt honoured to receive these two awards.

He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that his commitment to serving sports has made him the person he is today. He said, “Motho ke motho ka batho”, meaning you are what you are because of other people.

“I don’t know what to say. I’m speechless. I want to thank everyone who is supporting me. I couldn’t be where I am if it wasn’t for you guys. You made me the person I am today. I’m happy to see the impact I make to change people’s lives, especially underprivileged athletes. These awards have inspired me to work even harder to continue to serve South Africa,” said Matlou.
