Give her her flowers while she is still alive: Zondo

"We decided to visit this home to donate clothes and groceries because, unlike other children in the community, no one is going to buy them Christmas clothes."

SEDIBENG.- It was a busy weekend for the Orlando Pirates Greater Sebokeng Supporters Branch.

The branch was all over visiting some Children’s Homes to make donations.

The Mathwala Children’s Home in Vanderbijlpark was one of the homes this supporters’ branch visited to donate groceries and clothes to the home’s children. The branch spokesperson, Mzwakhe Zondo, told Sedibeng Ster they were overwhelmed by the reception they received with the children welcoming them with songs.

The Mathwala Children’s Home is one of the oldest of its sort in Vanderbijlpark.

They have served the community in the CW4 area for years. Zondo said there is something special about this home. He believes companies and organisations should support homes like this because of the role it plays in the community.

“I was really touched by their singing talent. You can see that some of them will go far regardless of their challenges and how they ended up there. I want to thank everyone who contributed to this initiative, especially our members. We also want to thank Mme Mathwala for welcoming us with open arms. The are not a lot of women like her in our society who are committed to taking care of the children. Some of them don’t even know their parents or where they come from. We must give her flowers while she is still alive because she is a mother to our nation,” said Zondo.

Meanwhile, the Sebokeng Greater Supporters Branch also joined the millions of South Africans as they celebrated 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. Zondo said the event was a great success.
