Judgment expected on publication of matric results

The Information Regulator is seeking an interdict against the publication of 2024 matric results.

The High Court in Pretoria is expected to deliver a verdict today in the case between the Department of Basic Education and the Information Regulator.

The Information Regulator has submitted an urgent application to obtain an interdict against the publication of 2024 matric results online and in newspapers.

The regulator argues that this contravenes the POPI Act.

The department argues that the application is not urgent.

Since 2014 matric results have been published in newspapers with the exam numbers of the matriculants instead of their names.
