Tragic end to search for missing teen
The search came to an end on 15 January after the team found the body in a stream on the outskirts of Boitumelo.

SEBOKENG. – A three-day search by the SAPS search and rescue team came to a tragic end following the recovery of the body of a 16-year-old boy who drowned while he and his friends were fishing from a stream in Sonderwater, Sebokeng.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane reports that the mother of the deceased filed a missing person case docket on 13 January after she was alerted that her son had drowned after saving one of his friends.
“According to his friends, he had successfully saved one of them from drowning while fishing. He tried to to the stream’s banks, but he slipped.”
Mokhachane states that on the same day, police, the search and rescue team, and K9 initiated a search but did not find the boy.
“On 14 January, the team continued searching utilizing a drone and sniffer dogs, but the boy could not be found.”
The search came to an end on 15 January after the team found the body in a stream on the outskirts of Boitumelo.
“The boy was declared dead by emergency services on the scene and taken to Sebokeng Government Mortuary by Forensic Pathologists.”
The acting station commander Colonel Stofina Mofokeng shared words of comfort with the mother of the deceased at the scene, stating that no mother should have to go through the pain of burying a child.
